More than 10 years ago, I moved from the United States to Sweden. I loved the country, but the first year — honestly, the first few years — were a mix of excitement and complete confusion.

I had to figure out the permits, the personnummer, how taxes work across two countries, how banking and BankID function, how healthcare is organized, what employers expect, and a hundred tiny everyday things nobody thinks to explain.

I kept a lot of notes. Over time those notes turned into the guide I wish I’d had when I moved.
